In biomass boilers, reciprocating grate and chain grate are two common grate types. They have certain differences in structure, working principle, advantages and disadvantages, and are suitable for different industrial production and process. The following is a comparison and analysis of the two types of grates.
First, the chain grate
Chain grate is mainly composed of hopper, base, front axle device, grate device, rear axle device, fire door and so on. Fuel from the hopper falls to the empty grate, with the movement of the grate into the furnace. The thickness is controlled by the position of the fuel gate, and the ash leakage during the movement of the grate is discharged from the ash hopper under the grate.

The advantages of chain grate are simple structure, metal saving, less leakage, less ventilation resistance, smooth and reliable operation, less wear and tear, and longer replacement cycle. In addition, the chain grate produces less noise. The disadvantage is that the manufacturing and installation requirements of high quality, otherwise easy to produce the grate running, arching, stuck or pulled off the fault.
Second, reciprocating grate
Reciprocating grate is usually composed of inclined movable grate piece and fixed grate piece, the two are arranged between each other and spaced stacked into a stepped grate surface. The tail of the movable grate sheet is embedded in the movable grate beam, and the front end is directly on the fixed grate sheet of the next row. The movable frame is supported on the rollers and connected with the push-pull rod, the variable speed DC motor drives the eccentric wheel and drives the push-pull rod, pulling the movable frame, so that all the movable grates are made before and after the reciprocating motion.

The advantage of reciprocating grate is that it can make the fuel burn fully, no need to dial fire when running, simple structure, easy maintenance, metal consumption and power consumption are less than the chain furnace. However, there are some disadvantages of reciprocating grate, such as greater wear and tear of the grate sheet, the grate to promote at the same time, the head of the grate sheet is constantly in contact with the hot layer of material, and there is no cooling conditions, which is often easy to burn out and need to be replaced often; for different fuels need to be adjusted and set up differently; at the same time, the reciprocating grate produces a large amount of noise.
In general, reciprocating grate and chain grate have their own advantages and disadvantages. Which boiler grate to choose needs to be considered according to the actual situation. In addition, you also need to consider the use of the environment, fuel type and other factors on the equipment, so as to choose the most suitable equipment.
