Reasons and solutions for boiler slagging and ash accumulation

May 31, 2024

Ash accumulation in boilers is a common problem, which mainly occurs during the use of the boiler. It is formed by the deposition of ash content and incomplete combustion particles in the flue gas on the heating surface. Ash accumulation not only affects the thermal efficiency of the boiler, but may also cause blockage of the heating surface, thereby affecting the normal operation of the boiler

1, Poor fuel quality

Poor fuel quality is one of the main reasons for boiler slagging. If the fuel burned contains high ash, sulfur and other components, a large amount of ash and coking substances will be formed during the combustion process, ultimately leading to boiler slagging and ash accumulation.

Solution: Choose high-quality fuel, preprocess the fuel before combustion, such as screening and drying, and add corresponding additives such as lime during the combustion process to adjust the fuel composition.

2, Poor water quality

Poor boiler water quality is another major cause of boiler slagging. Impurities, salts, and other components contained in water can form scale on the inner wall of the boiler, clog waterways and flues, form ash deposits, and reduce the thermal efficiency of the boiler.

Solution: Regularly check the water quality of the boiler, strengthen water treatment, use high-quality water treatment agents, timely remove scaling and dust accumulation, and ensure the water quality of the boiler.

3, Too little or too much air

The oxygen content is the main factor determining the combustion effect during the boiler combustion process. If the oxygen content is insufficient, combustion will not be sufficient and it is easy to form ash deposits; If the oxygen content is too high, it is easy to produce high-temperature oxidation, leading to coking.

Solution: By regulating the air, make the oxygen content moderate, improve combustion efficiency, and reduce boiler slagging and ash accumulation.

4, Improper operation

Improper operation is also an important cause of boiler slagging. For example, untimely cleaning of the flue, improper adjustment of the furnace fire, and excessive accumulation of ash in the combustion chamber. These operational errors can lead to boiler slagging and ash accumulation.

Solution: Strengthen the training of boiler operators to ensure standardized, safe, and effective operation, and timely clean the flue and accumulated dust. Based on the structural characteristics and operational details of the boiler, strengthen technical support, timely solve problems, and ensure the normal operation of the boiler.

In summary, boiler slagging and ash accumulation are complex issues related to fuel, water quality, air, operation, and many other aspects. Scientific and reasonable selection of fuel and water quality treatment, optimization of air ratio, and strengthening of daily operation and maintenance are necessary to effectively reduce boiler slagging and ash accumulation, and ensure the normal operation of the boiler.
